5 Days of Reviewmas 🎄 - Day #4 - Dirty 30 Review 🎬

Hi Internet!

I hope you are doing well wherever you are in the world today 🌏

So, we're getting to the end of the end of Reviewmas as we've come to Day #4. That also means Christmas is coming closer and closer, and I am not ready.

If I'm honest, this entire endeavour has just been an elaborate endeavour to distract myself from the fact that Christmas is almost here and 2017 is quickly coming to an end 🙈🙈🙈

But on today's post, which is the second review I promised y'all back in October. Click here if you would like some context 👍

The movie is called Dirty 30, and it's one of my favourites 💜 Plus, its stars Grace, Hannah and Mamrie are some of my favourite ladies to follow on YouTube - so that just makes it even better 💙

Here is the review....

Energetic party comedy Dirty 30 is a non-stop laugh fest; full of fun, friendship and crazy house party shenanigans!

Kate Fields (Mamrie Hart) has just turned 30. But she doesn’t really want to celebrate after receiving a rather depressing letter she wrote when she was 16. It described a wonderfully successful family life that Kate just didn’t have.

But in an attempt to fulfill some aspect of the letter, Kate allowed her two best friends Evie (Grace Helbig) and Charlie (Hannah Hart) to throw her a last-minute birthday house party. What was originally meant to be a small gathering quickly snowballs into a wild night of drinking, blasts from the past and out of control hijinks. What could possibly go wrong, am I right?!

Now full disclosure, I would never have found out about this movie if it wasn’t for YouTube. For those who are unaware, Dirty 30’s stars Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart and Mamrie Hart are A+ digital influencers and some of the coolest YouTubers on the platform.

I am subscribed to all 3 of these lovely ladies, and I’m always super excited to see what new mischief they get up in their videos. They’re always so unique, informative and just plain hilarious that I can easily re-watch things multiple times and still find them enjoyable.

So, I was really hoping that those same qualities would translate to a feature film where they were playing characters in a fictional timeline.

Long story short, I got what I was hoping for and so much more 😆😆😆

There’s a lot to love about this movie, and I was pleasantly surprised by the effortless dialogue flow and clever narrative progression.

Crazy shenanigans crop up left, right and centre over the course of this narrative!

It was effortlessly funny and nothing felt too forced or rushed. The quirky conversations and poignant dramatic moments also dropped in at just the right moments.

Not only was the writing and screenplay really engaging, but the cast did a wonderful job of bringing this narrative to life. The chemistry between everyone was really animated and fun, and everyone worked so well together!

Literally EVERYONE did a phenomenal job. There were times where it didn’t even feel like acting. I was simply watching a bunch of friends throwing a really kick-arse house party.

The beautiful Mamrie Hart rocks her performance as lovable protagonist Kate Fields.

Mamrie Hart’s portrayal of unlucky in love protagonist Kate was awesome. When audiences first met Kate, she wasn’t enjoying her job as an orthodontist’s assistant and her self-confidence was at an all-time low.

But I thoroughly enjoyed her journey and how she grew to accept herself and her unique qualities. I felt like it was very a relatable arc for a lot of young women who aren’t really sure where their lives are going at the moment.

Sometimes we need to do some crazy things in order to see who we really are and what we want out of life.

Grace Helbig was also delightful as the mischievous party throwing extraordinaire Evie. She was such a sweetie and completely nailed some of the movie’s best one-liners. The interactions with her husband and in-laws made for some especially eyebrow raising moments.

Grace Helbig delivering on one of her character Evie's more dramatic moments.

Rounding out the Holy Trinity’s killer performance, Hannah Hart was great as determined and easy-going Charlie. She also dominated in the one-liner department with lots of amusing moments and I loved her competitive spirit.

Hannah Hart delivers a strong performance as Charlie.

Outside of the main three ladies, there were a number of really cool supporting characters too.

I really liked Rufus, played by the wonderful Drew Monson. His one-liners were hysterical, and I loved his chill, nonchalant attitude to literally anything that was happening to him.

I also loved the mini high school love story between Oliver (Mikey Murphy) and Kinsey (Katherine Hughes). It was so innocent and adorable, and the homage to teen romantic comedies within the world of grown-up partying was a sweet touch for young-un’s like myself.

Dirty 30 was a film bursting with wholesome friendship, romance, humour and party vibes. If you don’t have a good time whilst watching this, I think there might be something wrong with you.

Chuck it on for your next girls night and guarantee yourself some hilarious shenanigans 💖

Happy viewing!
