Monday Music Time - Top 5 From "Beautiful Trauma" 🎶

Hello Internet!

I hope you are doing well wherever you are in the world today 🌏

So if you care, it's been a month since my last post. I've decided that I'm not going to apologise for that anymore, because my inspiration and writer's block are just too unpredictable.

Basically, I'm just going to post whenever I've got content to give the Internet. Whether that is three times a week or once every three weeks, please just go with it for me 🙈.

In other unrelated and irrelevant news, I got a Twitter account 😐 Yep, I just keep selling my soul to those social media overlords. So if you like random nonsense, lyrics and quotes at random intervals throughout life, feel free to go over and give @miss_memphis98 a follow 👍

Anyway, enough awkward and unnecessary self-promo! Time to get onto today's music post:

One of my favourite rockstar queens Pink has released her first album in over 5 years, and she doesn’t disappoint! There’s a lot going on and some common themes that spread out across the record, so I thought I would curate a personal Top 5. They aren’t necessarily my suggestions for singles or ranking the songs in terms of quality. But I think my selection would be useful in showing the diversity of theme and style that Pink brings to the table in “Beautiful Trauma”.

5. Revenge

This is the only collaboration on the album, but when it’s rap god Eminem why would you need anyone else? It’s sinister and standoff-ish in a sassy and fun way, but I think it requires a couple of listens to properly grasp how clever it is. With cheeky wordplay, self-aware silliness and a slightly twisted story, “Revenge” takes a comical look at how to get back at an unfaithful ex. It sticks out amongst the rest of the tracklist but shows Pink can literally make any track sound effortlessly cool. I love that it’s wacky and still makes you smile.

4. Beautiful Trauma

The album opener is co-produced and co-written by the innovative Jack Antonoff, and its dynamic instrumentation really packs a punch. The lyrical narrative is a little bit all over the place, but it fits together strangely well. She said she named the album after this song because life is traumatic in a lot of ways, but there are also a lot of wonderful things as well. It’s a truth we often don’t think about much, and this song is an excellent celebration of this poignant oxymoron. The soft rock vibe is perfect for a crazy dance/hairwhip in your living room.

3. Better Life

I didn’t think I was going to like this song so much, but it is one of my favourites for a couple of reasons. It has a surprisingly bubbly instrumentation for a lyrical narrative about questioning your life choices and watching your relationship fizzle out. As Antonoff’s second and final co-writing and producing credit for the album, he certainly knows how to create an awesome song that compliments Pink’s strong and honest vocals. The sentimentality of it makes it memorable for me, and I like how it still makes you ponder life with the meaningful message whilst being upbeat musically.

2. What About Us

The first time I heard this song, I absolutely loved it. It’s so fierce and empowering without being too complicated musically, and that’s quite a special thing to find in modern pop music. The lyrics are stunning and cut you right to core. The melody is beautifully simple, and there’s clever vulnerability in the verses. But the chorus makes a defiant and inclusive impact that’s hard to forget in a hurry. As her first single in five years, Pink came back onto the scene with the perfect bang that I think a lot of people are able to relate to.

1. Barbies

Along the lines of What About Us, Barbies is another track in which Pink absolutely nails the meaningful story alongside powerful style and instrumentation choices. Something about this one also feels quite special, and it just proves how much of a talent for raw poignancy Pink has. The brilliant wordsmith Julia Michaels sneaks in a co-writing credit amongst the contributors for this track. It captured a nostalgia for youth beautifully and the accompanying melody is gorgeous. The guitar in this song is particularly pretty and Pink once again delivers an endearing and heartfelt vocal performance. One of my absolute favourites!

But obviously these are just five of the thirteen songs on the album. Let’s be real – every track is a different shade of awesome. The album holistically fits together well and showcases Pink at her raw and edgy best. These five songs are a pretty good indication of what y’all can expect on “Beautiful Trauma”, because it definitely is an awesome album.

We can always count on Pink to push the envelope with music that is both fun and meaningful. As long as Pink continues to raise the bar with brilliant music, I shall continue to consume with a smile.

Happy listening 🎵🎵🎵!
