Monday Music - Songs of Last Week! π΅
Hello Internet!
I hope you are doing well wherever you are in the world right now π
Let me start by saying that this week has been uneventful, yet a strange rollercoaster of emotions.
Like nothing really good or bad happened, but I have definitely been feeling less than 100% over the past week or so. I don't know why but if I figure it out, maybe I'll tell you... or maybe I won't.
To be honest, I am at the point where I am just writing whatever comes to my brain right now, regardless of whether it is actually good or not.
With the craziness of university, I don't have a lot of time or spare neurons to work out the really complex, thematic and potentially controversial stuff. But I promise that when university finishes, it will get uber deep on here people π
In the meantime, let me give you another short and sweet music post to end Week #32 of 2017. I hope y'all like these because I enjoy writing them immensely (aka: imparting some sub-par musical wisdom onto the Internet peeps ππΆπ).
(Side note: I cannot believe there is only 20 weeks left of this year, WTH y'all??!! π±)
So without further ado, here is the third installment of Sunday Songs of the Week....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Music is always there for me, no matter how I am feeling or where I'm at in the world. I love how rich and diverse it is, with something for all of the emotions - no matter how wacky or way too deep.
This week especially, a bunch of new tracks have found a home on my Spotify songs list for various reasons. In the interest of time and everyone's short attention span, I've narrowed it down to 5 of my absolute faves:
This one was a complete surprise like for me and snuck up on my subconscious in the best way possible. As Louis' second single in the solo artist dimension, it is a different flavour to the likes of Just Hold On; but it is just as interesting and addictive. Its minimal production and urban flavour make it an effortlessly cool track, and the lyrics that narrate an uber relatable relationship situation only add to the wicked vibe.
This track is an old one, but a great one that has come back into my brain in the last week. Released way back around 2014/2015 off her amazing EP Room 93 and debut record Badlands, its dark and eerie vibe makes for an awesome listening experience. The contrast between the cleverly worded verses and the raw intensity of the chorus is unexpected yet brilliant. To top it off, the narrative is another beautifully relatable story told in a really unique way.
I'll go on the record saying that Miss Camila is killing the pop game post Fifth Harmony. Another sweet taste off her highly anticipated debut album, this smooth Latin fusion pop track is super addictive and fun to have a groove to. Referencing Cabello's Cuban heritage was a really awesome addition to the track that gives it a neat personal edge. Although I could have lived without the Young Thug verse, the song is still killer and I love it a lot.
There is something so strikingly pure and empowering about this song that I fell in love after about 3 seconds. Released only 3 days ago, it's a raw and emotional club ballad that shines because of how simple it is. There isn't a lot of bells and whistles happening apart from the energy of the synths, but the lyrics and Pink's signature powerhouse vocals cut right through to give the track an extra jab of heart and soul. It makes my heart full every time I listen to it - what more could you want?

1. Louis Tomlinson ft. Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals - Back To You

Fave Lyric: "You got me so addicted to the drama, I tell myself I'm done with wicked games. But then I get so numb with all the laughter, that I forget about the pain"
2. Halsey - Ghost

Fave Lyric: "My ghost, where'd you go?, What happened to the soul that you used to be?"
3. JP Cooper - September Song

I love this song so much that I think I have listened to about 20 times in the past 2 days. I would describe it as an easy listening tropical house pop song that has a really sweet lyrical narrative happening over the top. Released in September of last year, it has this wholesome innocence to it that I cannot get enough of. Cooper's smooth tone is literally so damn wonderful; and the 2 acoustic versions are even more mindblowingly amazing that I am addicted to this track in every form!
Fave Lyric: "I get a mad sense of danger, feel like my heart couldn't take it. 'Cause if we met we'd be strangers, you and I"
4. Camila Cabello ft. Young Thug - Havana

Fave Lyric: "We are search lights, we can see in the dark... We are rockets, pointing up at the stars... We are billions of beautiful hearts"
