Friday Feelings - Track By Track - Little Mix's Glory Days 🎶

Hello there Internet!

I hope you are doing well wherever you are in the world 🌏

Uni life has been intense this week but I have found some time to write something up for y'all.

I've realised recently that doing this keeps me somewhat sane amongst all the academic reading and writing I have to do for my classes, so I promise I will be keeping up my posts every week.

I hope you are just as interested as I am to see whether this actually happens or not, but right now I am just trying to take one week at a time 🙏

So this week's post is something that has actually been in the works for a while, but I have only had the spark of inspiration to finish it now. It feels great to finally get it done and out into the universe, so I hope y'all like it 💗

It's another music post (surprise, surprise 😝) and I am talking all things Little Mix! They are currently down under on their Australian leg of the Glory Days Tour and I was lucky enough to see the show last Saturday night.

It was a lot of fun, but I also had some stuff happen that wasn't fun (more on that at a later date...). Seeing the show and the girls in person gave me the perfect spark to finish my review of their 4th album Glory Days.

So without further ado, here is a track by track review of Little Mix's Glory Days....

The lovely girls from Little Mix are back on the music scene with their 4th album Glory Days. After winning The X Factor UK back in 2011, Jesy, Leigh-Anne, Jade and Perrie are stronger than ever both musically and personally.

Their confident and self-assured vibe right now is totally killer and every new piece of music they release only reaffirms their top status as expert musical chameleons. Here's a rundown of my thoughts on the 12 tracks from the standard edition of Glory Days....

Shout Out To My Ex

With a chant-like chorus that’s super addictive after multiple listens, it’s hard not to love this song. As the girls’ 4th No. 1 single in the UK, the lead single off Glory Days and one of their most successful songs to date, it’s a confident musical statement that sets the perfect tone of empowerment, energy and comradery for the rest of the album.

4 minutes and 6 seconds of: Lowkey dissing a former flame with a pop beat as backup.

Touch

The ladies have included some electro-Latin vibes for days with this summery banger all about physical attraction. It’s upbeat, catchy and vibrant, so it’s perfect single material and elevates a beach party playlist to the next level.

3 minutes and 33 seconds of: Tropical vibes and a feeling of wanting to dance all over your body.

F.U.

A classy throwback track that would have been right at home in an old-school swing club. The backing harmonies and vocal complexity from each of the 4 girls made it a robust and strong love song with some quirky personality.

3 minutes and 58 seconds of: Swaying and ranting about simultaneously loving and hating a significant other.

Oops (featuring Charlie Puth)

Sweet, catchy and fun; Oops describes the story of falling back in love with someone who was initially a one-night stand. As the only album collaboration track, it does stand out in a really nice way because it captures the doo-wop vibe that Puth is known for as well as the adorable cheek that the girls excel in.

3 minutes and 24 seconds of: Cuteness, cheekiness and a cameo from Charlie.

You Gotta Not

A funky and sassy take on knowing what you’re worth and not settling for anything less. The backing beat has this really awesome groove to it and the lyrics make you laugh with their cheeky wordplay. I see you Blues Clues reference 😉

3 minutes and 11 seconds of: Pure female empowerment. Hate this song? You gotta not.

Down and Dirty

They’ve tried their hand at the very trendy electro dance scene, but it falls short with bland lyrics and a painfully generic vibe. It feels a little disjointed at times, and aside from a couple of lines in the chorus and a clever Game of Thrones reference, it’s an easy song to completely forget about.

2 minutes and 55 seconds of: Innuendos and strange techno beats.

Power

There is SO much fierceness and sass pulsing through the song that every listen is like getting a girlpower electric shock to your eardrums. From those lyrics that command attention to the fiery vocal delivery and jam-packed background beats, there is no denying that these ladies dominate the self-empowerment game.

4 minutes and 7 seconds of: A kick-ass road trip with your girls to show the boys whos the boss.

Your Love

What an Egyptian desert at sunset would sound like if it were to become a pop song. It has slightly generic lyrics and it's less likely to stand out in a playlist, but it’ll make you feel all warm and fuzzy. The beat and the cute vibe make it enjoyable, so there’s nothing wrong with it.

3 minutes and 27 seconds of: Being loved up at an extremely trendy beach party.

Nobody Like You

Surprisingly, this is the album’s only ballad. It’s hauntingly brilliant with a raw vulnerability that proves the girls are fundamentally phenomenal singers behind the beats and high production value. The eerily sparse instrumental underneath was perfect at highlighting the poignancy of the melody with those gorgeous lyrics.

4 minutes and 8 seconds of: Literal. Perfection. Side effects will include excessive weeping.

No More Sad Songs

Sweet simple pop with a lovely, uplifting message about trying to move on and stay positive after a break-up. It’s easy to sway to because the beat isn’t too heavy and the light and shade is well balanced between the emotive lyrics and dance vibe. Another one of my favourites.

3 minutes and 26 seconds of: A catchy way of telling the DJ to put the ballads away for a while.

Private Show

This song is mostly disappointing because it fails to hit the mark lyrically. It’s quite mundane and a touch cringey at times, so it’s certainly not my favourite. Having said that, the instrumentation is actually really cool. It feels uber funky and the horns paired with the tambourine makes for a nice sound combo.

2 minutes and 41 seconds of: A hip little musical arrangement bogged down by more innuendos.

Nothing Else Matters

Standing out with a powerful and anthemic chorus, this song is overflowing with heart and passion. Friendship and sisterhood are the foundations of the LM mantra and they’re staying true to that on this standard album closer.

3 minutes and 55 seconds of: A blissful sentiment that fills your soul with warmth and sunshine.

There's no denying the music world struck gold when these 4 girls were put together on The X Factor. They continually reinvent themselves but maintain that red-hot sense of individuality and anthemic girlpower.

Glory Days is an empowering pop experience with dancing fuel for people of all ages. With some of their best tracks ever littering their tour setlists, Little Mix show no sides of slowing down with plenty of inspiration left in the tank. Here's to the Glory Days y'all!
