Monday Music - Songs of the (Past Few) Week(s)!

Hello there Internet!

I hope you are doing well wherever you are in the world today 🌏

So I am really feeling the inspiration and writing vibes at the moment, so that is why y'all are getting a tonne of content. I hope you don't mind 😀💖😀💖😀

Truth be told, I had three different ideas for what I wanted to post today, but I couldn't really decide what I wanted to put out. Curse me and my indecisive brain.... But I lost some time because spontaneous social gatherings are super awesome fun, so I had to go with the quickest option. Yay for life making me a decisive human! 😇

I'm getting musical once again so shoutout to all my fellow muso's, because I absolutely love writing about music 🎶

So without further ado, here is some more songs that I have been obsessed with over the past couple of weeks....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I probably spend more than 85% of my life with my headphones in, listening to some kind of musical arrangement. Some people would say I have a problem, but I prefer to think of it as a pretty awesome lifestyle choice. Music is so much fun and covers all kinds of emotions, themes and vibes - what's not to love right??

Over the past few weeks, I have accumulated some truly awesome and underrated tracks and my playlist is looking really interesting right now 😻 So I figured I would share them with the world, you're welcome 😉

James Arthur - The Truth

Source: YouTube

Track #14 from the album Back From The Edge, this song is incredibly intelligent and powerful. I cannot get enough of how raw it is both lyrically and instrumentally, and the drums are insanely addictive. I can relate to it on so many freaking levels, and the desperation that comes into Arthur's tone in the ad-libs towards the end always gets to me emotionally. It's strong and profound and I need to stop gushing about how much I adore it....

Fave Lyric: “Don't tell me it's over, because I don't want to believe, because now I've opened my eyes and I have found a way to breathe, the truth sets me free”

Sia and Labrinth - To Be Human

Source: Genius

The track that accompanies the credits of the 2017 film Wonder Woman, it's a wonderful balance between vulnerability and strength. I could listen to Sia's voice forever and ever and Labrinth's tone is so pure and genuine, so it's a harmonious musical combination that gives me goosebumps every listen. It has to feel anthemic because of its cinematic origins, but the thematic poignancy of talking about what it means to truly be human cuts listens to the core. A great piece of songwriting!

Fave Lyric: “To be human is to love, even when it gets too much, I'm not ready to give up”

Rudimental and James Arthur - Sun Comes Up

Source: Stagedoor FM

An addictive dance track from two British musical superpowers. Although Arthur isn't usually known for his up-tempo songs, this one is so freaking good!! It combines the edgy, rock and roll vibe of Arthur's vocals with the catchy beats that producers Rudimental always know how to nail. It has such a lovely message about treating each new day as a chance to move on from the adversities of the past. Other artists take notes - this is how you absolutely smash a break-up song!

Fave Lyric: “Suddenly the sun comes up, and the dark is gone, we made it to the dawn, and I don't miss you anymore”

Mike Perry and Casso - Inside The Lines

Source: Genius

Swedish DJ Mike Perry teams up with Casso for this super interesting mid-tempo dance track. It has a really different kind of energy that is slightly more vulnerable and exposed than what listeners would expect, and I cannot get enough of it. There aren't a lot of lyrics happening, but the phrases that do come up are really clever, fun and quite enjoyable. This is the kind of song that I love to dance to because the beats aren't as 'in your face' and it's much more of an intense listening experience.

Fave Lyric: “Tried to keep our colours, inside the lines, inside the lines, but it's hard to draw emotions, in troubled minds, inside the lines”

Michael Schulte - You Said You'd Grow Old With Me

Source: Discogs.com

German singer/songwriter Michael Schulte released this song back in 2012, and five years later my ears are thanking him immensely. The lyrical narrative that he describes is so powerful and real that you can't help but be drawn into the emotion. It's clean, simple and raw in a way that shows how powerful music can be when you keep it simple. A heartbreakingly beautiful break-up ballad with a lovely melody that helps to make the chorus stand out.

Fave Lyric: “One last word, one last moment, to ask you why, you left me here behind”

Five more musical gems to add to your evergrowing playlists y'all! I have no idea why I've been gravitating towards more dance tracks recently, but it just goes to show that good music can be found anywhere. You just need to have a pair of open ears and a little bit of patience. Happy listening Internet!
