Saturday Signs - Getting Candid: Vincent Van Gogh and Going With The Flow....

Hello Internet!

I hope you are doing well wherever you are in the world today 🌏🌏🌏

So the majority of a week has passed since my last upload, and I honestly didn't realise I had left it that long 🙈

I have been in the zone recently with some time off from my uni responsibilities, but as today's blog post will tell you - this week has been a little slow in the full-on writing department 😐

Having said that, there are a huge stack of ideas that I'm currently working on (when I get some time...) that I am really excited to share with the world in the future 😆😆😆

But I have been having a super, super fun time writing on here recently and I hope that you have been enjoying the content I've been putting out. I'm actually quite proud of it and thanks for stopping by my posts both now and/or in the past to have a read - y'all are awesome 💖💖💖

Now that it is Saturday here in Australia, I decided that today I would talk about one of the highlights of my week - going to the awesome Vincent Van Gogh exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.

But this isn't going to be your standard art review because I'm going to get a little personal with some Getting Candid things thrown in throughout and at the end.

Whilst I haven't been actively posting, I have been doing some reflective thinking and I thought I would share some revelations. I hope you don't mind and can potentially relate to something that I talk about 😀

So without further ado, here is another edition to the rapidly growing Getting Candid series - Vincent Van Gogh and Going With The Flow....

VINCENT VAN GOGH....

Anyone who knows me away from the Internet understands that I’m a big creative person. Any kind of creative avenue that is a form of self-expression and tells a story – I am all about it! So naturally I am drawn to the wonderful world of art. My personal art skills are questionable, but I love celebrations of other people who have way more talent in the art department.

One of my all-time favourite artists is the dynamic Dutch sensation Vincent Van Gogh. Sure, he was a little eccentric and is potentially more famous in some areas of the world for cutting off his ear voluntarily but there is no denying that Mr Van Gogh had an amazing eye for creating masterpieces.

An exhibition celebrating Van Gogh’s works around the four seasons (in exhibition order = Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer) was a splendid success for the National Gallery of Victoria, and I finally got the chance to see it on Tuesday.

It was quite a lovely experience for me because I never realised the true strength of Van Gogh’s connection to nature and the seasons in particular. I resonated with several quotes featured around the exhibition (some of which are featured in the pictures below), and consequently realised that Van Gogh saw the world in a beautifully unique way.

Quote: Vincent Van Gogh

The way he spoke about his art and views on life to his brother Theo is so profound and poignant, and you can see in his variety of paintings how important purpose and symbolism was to him. Every single work has some sort of hidden meaning, and I thoroughly enjoyed looking behind the strokes to see a bigger picture.

Long story short, I think I might be spiritually connected to Vincent Van Gogh. His immense appreciation for nature and the seasons is so wonderful and his passion is something that is really inspiring for me.

But don’t stress everyone, my ears are fine and will be for the foreseeable future.

To paint a brief visual picture of the exhibition, here is a selection of the works showcased in each of the 4 season sections alongside a corresponding Van Gogh quote:

Autumn

Winter

Spring

Summer

My trip to the wonderful world of Vincent Van Gogh was definitely the highlight of my week, and maybe even my year. It has finished up in Melbourne by now so congratulations to anyone who saw it as well - another awesome art exhibition am I right?

I would encourage everyone to try and get out to see some kind of art exhibition; whether it is in a museum, gallery or other quirky place where art is stored. The culture is always really exciting to explore, and you might even learn something new 😉

....AND GOING WITH THE FLOW!

Besides getting my art lover on at the gallery on Tuesday, the other thing I've been doing with my time this week is be super reflective about life.

If you are thinking that I do this a lot, you would be correct. I feel like I am at that age where the realities of what it takes to be a proper functioning adult are dawning on me... and I don't like it.

Whilst I firmly believe that I will continue to have the mind and heart of a 13 year old for the forseeable future, this doesn't mean I refrain from contemplate the big philosophical questions in life. I am thinking about that crap all the damn time.

When I am in full reflection mode, I tend to not want to be around technology and social media. This is why it's taken me almost a full week to upload on here.

My head needs to be in the right space to sit down and write, and sometimes to get to this special creative place in my brain - patience is required.

I also made a promise to myself when I started this blog that I would always be nothing but honest. Truthfully, it's way more difficult to lie to yourself when the words are staring at you on a screen... and published in a public forum where anyone and everyone can hold you accountable for what you say.

I not only want to be honest about the words that I write, but the times in which I decide to sit down and actually write. I never want to force the issue and end up writing something I'm not proud of or I don't necessarily believe.

At the end of the day, I am just going with the flow and seeing where my mind takes me in this big massive journey we call life. Some days I am going to be super positive, productive and all about how I can be a better person. Other days, the world is just going to feel too big and I'll be sad, sluggish and accepting my fate as an eternal sloth. Because life wouldn't be interesting if it was the same everyday....

Lastly, in terms of future uploading - it's going to be a little bit spontaneous. But definitely look out on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays to check in and see what's happening. I'll probably aim for 1-2 posts a week, but I don't really know anything for certain right now. University study doesn't often leave a whole lot of time for other things, but I am going to do my best.

So I guess you will have to just go with the flow with me and let's see how things go together. Here's to the future y'all 👍
