Friday Feelings - Songs To Help You Love Yourself
Hello there Internet!
How are you this week? I hope y'all are doing OK, because I know there are a lot of people in my life who are really busy and stressed out at the moment. So if this is you, don't forget to breathe, smile and remember that you will get through it!😀😀
So once again, y'all will notice that I am late in posting something on the blog... again. Two weeks in a row being late is not something I'm particularly proud of, but that is just the way life has turned out for me recently.
Not gonna lie, I had a tough week last week and I think I am still getting my brain back in order so I hope you can forgive me for making Friday blog day momentarily. I promise that it will be back to Wednesday's really soon, so please bear with me y'all 💖💖💖
This week's blog post is a celebration of one of my absolute favourite things: combining the power of music with messages of positive empowerment. It just warms my heart so much, so I thought I would share some of that with you 🎶
A quick little shoutout to all my fellow ladies as well, because this post is aimed at you guys primarily. But if there are any gentlemen who find this post interesting/helpful then that is amazing too. We could always use a little bit more selflove in the world and I am just doing my part 👍
So without further ado, here are a few songs to help y'all love yourselves a little more....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Released in April
2017, this female empowerment anthem is so quirky and fun to listen to on
repeat.
Released in July 2016, this one is a mallow mid-tempo ballad to add to your playlists.
It’s poignantly raw and reflective, and encourages people to love every part of themselves.
The lyrics don’t shy away from the super deep and real stuff, but it also includes a reminder that there is always hope and happiness on the horizon when you have a positive attitude.
I believe self-acceptance is one of the most empowering things a person can have, and this song is a perfect anthem to inspire everyone to be kinder to themselves and each other.
Fave Lyrics:
“There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark, you should know you're beautiful just the way you are”
“And you don't have to change a thing, the world could change its heart”

As my Instagram
bio will tell you, I see the world in song lyrics. So that basically means I find
music really helpful in explaining my feelings and observations about the world.
Whether I am
feeling happy, sad, angry or excited – I know I can find a song to match and I can
sort out whatever it is I happen to be feeling.
I find this
process particularly helpful when my self-esteem needs a little bit of a boost.
If I am feeling down or not so confident, there is nothing like an empowering
anthem from one of my favourite singers to up my morale.
So if y’all are anything
like me, here are some of my personal jams:
★☆★☆★
Sit Still Look Pretty (Daya)
Released back in
March 2016, it’s a super-duper bouncy and catchy track with a rebellious tone
and relatable lyrics.
I LOVE this song
because it is such a great reminder of how the strength and confidence we have
inside ourselves is enough. You don’t need to put on an act or rely on anyone
else for happiness, because that power is within YOU and it’s brilliant.
It’s about not
being afraid to go after the things you want in life, and not letting anyone else
or their expectations get in the way of your individual amazingness. You are NOT
someone else’s accessory, so don’t be afraid to go after your dreams and goals.
Fave Lyrics:
“But I don't wanna
be the puppet that you're playing on a string, this queen don't need a king!”
“I don't know what
you've been told, but this gal right here's gonna rule the world”
Most Girls (Hailee Steinfeld)
It’s another
celebration of the fact that it’s OK for girls to be anything they want to be. Whether
that’s a bookworm or a jock or a party animal, as long as you feel confident
then everything is all good.
The thing that really
sets ‘Most Girls’ apart for me is the fact that it celebrates how our individual
quirks and differences are the things that make us unique and special.
Whenever I listen
to this song, I feel so strong and confident because Hailee is 100% correct – I
don’t want to be like most girls. I just want to be me and I think that is
pretty cool!
Fave Lyrics:
“Cause you look
greatest when you feel like a damn queen”
“Most girls are
smart and strong and beautiful, most girls work hard, go far, we are
unstoppable!”
Scars To Your Beautiful (Alessia Cara)
Back To Beautiful (Sofia Carson)
Released in 2017,
this lovely pop dance track is all about getting back to focusing on the beauty
within.
It’s energetic and
fun with clever lyrics that communicate such an important and uplifting message.
In amongst all the
pressure to be beautiful on the outside all the time, we often forget about the
fact that our hearts and minds are often the MOST beautiful parts of ourselves.
I also love how
Sofia highlights the importance of not only loving ourselves, but also
encouraging others to accept themselves.
Cutting out the
judgement and self-deprecation is a really important step in making the world a
more beautiful place, and I love this song for helping to achieve this.
Fave Lyrics:
“All these words,
starting wars, over who can hurt who more”
“We gotta, get
back to beautiful”
Masterpiece (Jessie J)
Released in
January 2015, this song is basically a wonderful ode to life being a work in
progress.
It has this wicked
string opening that instantly makes you feel so strong, and this only grows
over the course of the track as the beat and flow kicks in.
The song has Jessie’s
signature power and flair, and the verses feature some ridiculously cool
wordplay that talks about being a confident force to be reckoned with in the
world.
‘Masterpiece’ is self-empowerment
that packs a musical punch, and it never fails to make me feel like such a girl
boss after every listen!
Fave Lyrics:
“'Cause I'm
perfectly incomplete, I'm still working on my masterpiece”
“I'm not gonna
stop, I like the view from the top”
Try (Colbie Caillat)
Released in June
2014, this song is one of a small musical elite that has managed to make me cry.
One of my best friends showed it to me, and I instantly fell in love with its
simple melody and beautiful message.
Like a few other
tracks on this list, Caillat talks about the importance and authenticity and
not living your life to please other people.
The production is
very simple, but it never fails to hit you right in the heart. We often forget
that we don’t have to try so hard to be likeable and fit into these confining
stereotypes. In reality, the people who truly love us are accepting of us just
the way we are.
This will always
be a classic empowerment ballad for me and I love it so much.
Fave Lyrics:
“You don't have to
try so hard, you don't have to give it all away”
“Wait a second, why
should you care, what they think of you. When you're all alone, by yourself, do
you like you? Do you like you?”
★☆★☆★
I hope you feel
more empowered through the power of music after reading this, and remember:
there is nothing more important in life than loving yourself.
