Wednesday Wisdom - Getting Candid: Why I Started Blogging

Hey there Internet!

Welcome back to another exciting week on the blog 😀 I hope you are doing well wherever you are in the world and life isn't getting you down too much 👍

For today's blog post, I wanted to officially start a series that I have been working on for a while. From the title, you can see that this series is called Getting Candid.

It's basically a place where I am going to talk about some topics that are potentially more controversial, complex and especially today, quite personal. So I thought that it would be incredibly appropriate to start off my Getting Candid series with talking about why I started Miss Memphis as a blog endeavour.

I hope that today's post and whatever Getting Candid goes on to be in the future allows you to learn a little bit more about me whilst also getting an insight into the way I think and see the world. As much as I love writing reviews and fun stuff, it's also important to have some balance in life.

So without further ado, here is me getting candid about my reasons for blogging and having a creative presence online:

I feel like one of the most popular questions any kind of online creator gets asked by their friends/peers is why did you start in the first place? What made you think blogging, or creating YouTube videos, or even making edits on Instagram was a genuinely good idea?

Personally, I’ve thought about this question a lot recently, as I have been brainstorming new directions and topics for future posts. I think it is important to consistently reflect on why we choose to do certain things and check ourselves to make sure we are still doing them for the right reasons.

So after doing some deep thinking, I’ve deduced some of the main reasons why I started blogging. I decided to share them with y’all, just in case you were curious….

A Sense of Anonymity

When I decided that I wanted to have a creative presence online, I knew I had options about the medium. But I quickly realised that I didn’t particularly like being on camera, so making YouTube videos was out. I also realised that I hate the sound of my speaking voice recorded, so podcasts were out of the question as well. But I have always loved reading and writing, so a blog was right up my alley.

I also liked the idea of maintaining a degree of anonymity around the blog because there was no necessary obligation to put something intensely personal like my voice or my face out there as well. I could just write without a judgement on my physical appearance being chucked into the mix. Regardless of whether you know me in the real world or not, I can guarantee you that my writing is much more interesting to you as a reader than my face.

That doesn’t mean I’m not afraid to get personal on here though. I’m more than happy to reveal stuff about me and the more interesting experiences of my life, but only if it helps to prove a point I’m trying to make.

I don’t want this to be a place where I simply complain about awful I think the world is on any given day. I don’t want this to be about me for whoever reads this. I would only hope that the examples and experiences I reference stimulate conversations amongst groups of people and even expose them to things they wouldn’t have otherwise discovered.

Control of My Own Space

Having said that, I quite like the idea of having my own space where I can control what kind of ideas are being projected into the world.

As much as there are times where I would like to change how other people think and feel, I can’t. The only thing I can control is how I think and feel, and a lot of time this blog is going to be a place where I can just sort my thoughts out.

Whilst some of these posts have the potential to get pretty serious, I also like the idea of having a place online where I can actively spread some more positivity. There is way too much negative energy being pumped into society everyday both on and offline and I want to do my part to try and make our world a happier place.

In conjunction with the artsy, inspirational quote/song lyrics theme of my Instagram account (@miss_memphis98), I want my presence online to be intelligent, empowering and make people smile.

Consistent Writing Practice

I view my blog as a casual and informal place where I can consistently practice my writing skills and write about topics that I am genuinely interested in.

I hope to have a career as a journalist or professional writer of some kind in the future, so it’s important that I continue to refine my style and get my confidence up. Writing has been a huge passion of mine since I was little and I hope that this blog serves to expand my literary abilities and fuel my passion for the power of words even more.

No matter who you are or where you come from, your voice is powerful. I take my voice, especially in the online space, very seriously. I would highly recommend getting yourself a place that acts the same way my blog does for me because it's one of the most self-fulfilling things you can do for yourself.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So that is just some of my general reasoning behind jumping into the world of blogging and having a creative presence online. I hope you enjoyed it and please share/recommend to friends if you feel so inclined 😀
